Post Adoption Services
Under the Adoption and Children Act 2002, all local authorities have a responsibility to provide adoption support services to its clients. Tower Hamlets Post Adoption Support Services are available to anyone involved in adoption. This includes children and adults who are adopted, birth relatives, adoptive families, step parents and inter-country adopters.The following services are in place:
Adoption Support Assessments - The team will undertake adoption support assessments of adopted families. These are completed on request.
Financial Support - The team can, for eligible families, access a range of financial support including weekly allowances, lump sum payments, settling in allowances and financial support to enable families to access to therapy. Some financial assistance is means tested but full details regarding this area can be obtained from the duty officer.
For adoptive adults this team can offer advice, support and assistance to those who have or wish to access their records or trace their birth families.
Tower Hamlets has a contract with the Post Adoption Centre to provide independent, confidential advice to anyone involved in the adoption process.
