Support for adoptive families

Tower hamlets provides an extensive range of support services to adoptive families and their children, including:

• Adoption support assessments
• Access to therapeutic services
• Training and seminars
• Support with contact
• Support groups
• Social events for adopters and children

Additional therapeutic support via the Adoption Support Fund

Adoptive families can now access a wide range of therapeutic services via the Adoption Support Fund. Many adopted children have experienced a difficult start in life before being placed with their adoptive family and might need additional help and support at different times of their lives. We can help you access:

• Behaviour therapy
• Play, music, art and drama therapy
• Extensive therapeutic life story support
• Specialist training for adoptive parents

You can read all about the fund in more detail at the first4adoption website.

For further information and to discuss your support needs contact us on 020 7364 5431
or email us at: adoption@towerhamlets.gov.uk. You can also read our leaflet: Support for Adoptive Families.

If you do not wish to use our services, we can refer you to an independent agency such as the Post Adoption Centre UK. You can contact them directly by calling their advice line number: 020 7284 5879.

If you adopted from Tower Hamlets and reside outside the borough we will provide this support for three years after the Adoption Order was granted. After this time your support needs will become the responsibility of the adoption support service in the area in which you live.

If you reside in Tower Hamlets and adopted from elsewhere we will provide a support service if three years have passed since your adoption order.
