Inter-Country Adoption

If you live in Tower Hamlets and wish to adopt from abroad, please call our office and ask to speak to a duty social worker. We will take down your details and information about your personal circumstances and will be able to offer you advice. We would then invite you in for a discussion and to meet two workers who will explore your interest in adoption further and explain the process in detail.

The process of assessment (or home study) works in the same way as if you were going to adopt a child from the UK. If you wish to adopt from another country you will need to make a payment for your assessment. This is because the adoption service's funds are for children who reside in the UK and need adoptive families. In order to cover costs, to assess accurately and provide the appropriate support, we currently we have a fixed rate fee of £3,500.

Note - UK is a signatory to the Hague convention, which places certain responsibilities on the local authorities, and those who wish to adopt. Details of the Law, regulations and designated countries can be obtained by visiting the Department of Health website http://www.education.gov.uk/.
